Cornwall Ontario – “Cornwall’s boring!” Often this is the perception of how many of Cornwall’s youth view the City. However the City of Cornwall’s Youth Advisory Committee are working hard to change that perception.
“Cornwall has a lot of potential for the youth and the future,” said Chair of the committee Josh Welsh, a Grade 12 student at Saint Lawrence Secondary School. “The biggest issue is giving the youth something to do.”
“It’s really important that we get the youth involved,” Welsh said. He leads by example through his participation in the CYAC.
The Cornwall Youth Advisory Committee serves the population of Cornwall by empowering youth to make a difference in the lives of others. It is also dedicated to making Cornwall a more “youth-friendly” community. One way it does that is by hosting events.
The committee hosts free swims at the Aquatic Centre and free skates at the Benson Centre about once a month. Their next event is a Free Teen Swim on Saturday, February 16th at the Aquatic Centre starting at 8:30 p.m. All teens are welcome to take part.
“It’s great that a committee like this exists; to show the youth that there actually is something to do,” Welsh said.
