Cornwall Ontario – Recently I had the pleasure of talking to a very special, community minded young lady, Caydence Andre, who will be celebrating her upcoming 10th Birthday on Saturday, January 14th, in a very unique and special way.
Here are my 5 questions with this 9 year old young lady.
#1: I believe that tomorrow you will be turning 10. Usually children your age look forward to their birthday parties so that they can receive gifts, play with their friends, eat cake and play party games. What do you have planned for your birthday?
A Birthday Party / Fundraiser for ALS – raising money for ALS and maybe finding a cure! – Friends, cake and lots of dancing and balloons we will have for sure. My dad will be DJ and I helped mom plan lots of fun stuff like a Bake Sale, Giant Jenga Competition, Zumba with Jasmine and Adele, A visit with Queen Elsa, a Photo Booth with Carol Grant Productions, Draws, an Auction and lots of Meet and Greets with the very cool Seeker Chicks, Shannon and Erica from DCN’s The Couch, Sparky the fire dog, the Cornwall Colts and Slapshot and maybe even a surprise guest or two as we are always adding more. Our auctioneer is Bill Halman from the BOOM 101.9.
#2: You chose to raise funds for A.L.S. What is A.L.S. and why did you choose that?
ALS stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and is a neurodegenerative disease where the nerve cells that control your muscles die. The ‘living wires’ which connect your brain to your muscles degenerate, leading to a loss of mobility, loss of speech and eventually impact the ability to breathe. It is also known as Lou Gherig’s disease. There is no known cure or effective treatment for ALS and we’ve lost a few friends to it already. It is more common than I thought. I want to raise awareness and help raise money to find a treatment and hopefully a cure and help the families who suffer with this cruel disease.
#3: Where is this Birthday Bash taking place and when?
At the Trinity Anglican Church Hall on Second St. Tomorrow, Saturday January 14th from 1pm until 5pm.
#4: Who will you be inviting?
Everyone is invited…we have lots of fun planned for kids and adults…Kids..you need an adult with you to come in – they deserve some fun too.
#5: What kind of things will your guests expect to see and do that day?
My guests can expect to dance, eat, enjoy cake, win prizes, buy baked goods to bring home and have fun fun fun. They can also expect to help a great cause.
and as always the bonus question: If anyone needs more information about this event where should they go to find it?

I know that Caydence has a lot of friends so this will be a great event to attend! This sociable young lady can be seen all over Cornwall supporting and volunteering at local events with her mother Rachelle Andre who happens to know everything that is going on in the area at all times. Just check out the Seeker centre spread where each week you can find the “Bored Board” with Rachelle Andre and also visit the Facebook page “Things to do in Cornwall Ontario and SD&G.
Thank you so much for this interview Caydence and all of us at the Seeker wish you the best Birthday ever and Congratulations on being such a giving and thoughtful young lady!
Please note: Donations of auction and bake sale items would be greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at the hall between 12:30pm and 1pm tomorrow for this ALS Fundraiser which is in honour of Brian Tardiff , a wonderful member of our community who lost his battle with ALS last year.
