Cornwall Ontario — Tomato, pepper and bean plants as well as ever bearing strawberry plants will be offered free of charge to the public.
The Incredible Edible Plant Festival takes place Saturday May 25th from 1pm to 3pm at 340 Pitt Street in front of City Hall.
Transition Cornwall+, in partnership with the City of Cornwall, the Cornwall Horticultural Society, Seaway Valley Community Health Centre and the Social Development Council of Cornwall will be giving away young plants to encourage new or non gardeners of all ages to grow their own food.
The seedlings have been started locally and will be ready for the big giveaway on the patio in front of Cornwall City Hall. The vegetable plants will be repotted on site into containers large enough for them to spend the summer. All that is required is a sunny doorstep or corner of the yard.
Also see the in-ground planting demonstration, and have your vegetable gardening questions answered.
The fun, fast-paced film ‘Edible City: Grow the Revolution,’ will be screened at the nearby Health Centre. It shows how everyone can be involved in making our food system more resilient.
Plan to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy the spring weather and maybe some music!
