I’m a real hound so when my best friend unleashed me while taking me on my morning walk, my nose took over my willpower and I got running like a lunatic. I kept wanting to turn around and run back to my owner, but every single time, a new scent hit my nostrils, guiding me further and further away. I’m very curious, you see.
I wandered around for a few days. It got cold and I was scared. It’s a miracle I didn’t get hit by one of those metal boxes with four wheels who don’t seem to make their mind up as to where the heck they want to go!
A nice stranger found me and took me to the Potsdam Humane Society where I stayed for a short while.
I didn’t quite know what to make of the place. It was LOUD in there! There was big dogs and small dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets… The sounds and the scents were disturbing and I didn’t know why I was kept in a small confined area.
Every day, people came to look at all of us. Every day, I waited for my owner. He didn’t come. I sure do miss him!
Many times, people visited with me and tried to make me do stuff I didn’t want to do like sit, roll over or fetch a ball. When they saw I didn’t do as they said, they left. What can I say? I’m a free spirit! I don’t like when two-legged creatures that I don’t know try to control my every move! I tried to tell them , tried to show them that I have many other qualities, but they just wouldn’t listen.
Then one day, a nice family with a little boy and a little girl came in. They were nice. They played with me and gave me belly rubs. I Loooooove belly rubs!
They took me to their home. I was confused. I looked around. Was this my new home? They said it was, so I got comfortable.
I liked my new humans. They gave me food, water, toys, love… But they got really mad every time I went to the bathroom. I don’t get it? I would be very respectful and get away from them, find a nice spot and do my business. They’d come running with a loud NO, and banish me out of the house for hours! Other times, I’d poop and they ‘d give me a treat! Humans! It’s really hard to know how to please them.
The last time I saw them, the man, who was very tall and very imposing, came running at me waving his arms in all directions! I started barking. He barked back. I barked louder. And growled. What? I was afraid! I don’t quite know what to do when I’m scared
They took me back to the shelter.
I had given up hope, maybe I was the problem? Would anyone ever want to give me a forever home? And then my answer came.
Cue the Lucios.
