Long Sault –Local Member of Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry Guy Lauzon today attended the Lost Villages Historical Society in Long Sault to announce funding for an upcoming event in South Stormont to celebrate the Bicentennial Commemoration of the War of 1812.
“Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in organizations that support local artists, like the Lost Villages Historical Society,” said Minister Moore. “By supporting this organization, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy and support our arts, culture, and heritage.”
“This funding is going to help the Lost Villages host this important commemoration of the Skirmish at Hoople’s Creek,” said MP Lauzon. “This is a great opportunity to promote our local history and will enhance our tourism sector in the area as well.”
The Lost Villages Historical Society has received funding of $2,000 to help present a “Bicentennial Commemoration of the Skirmish At Hoople’s Creek” which will take place on Sunday, June 30, 2013. Activities include local militia drills, pipe bands, displays of artifacts and educational materials from the time period, storytelling and music. The project will involve 50 volunteers who will dedicate 500 hours to the planning, managing, implementation and evaluation of this 1-day anniversary. The commemoration will feature the work of 87 artists and heritage performers. The expected attendance is 1,000.
