Cornwall Ontario — According to The Cornwall Community Action Group homeowners in South Glengarry pay 28.5% less in property taxes on their home than if they had the same home in the City of Cornwall, and homeowners in South Stormont pay 35.5% less in property taxes on their home than if they had the same home in the City of Cornwall. Of course there are services available in Cornwall not available in South Glengarry and South Stormont such as Public Transit.
Despite the clear differences between a City government and a rural government, CAG believes there is room for the City of Cornwall to tighten it’s budget. The CAG is calling for a more fiscally sound City Council in Cornwall Ontario. They have lobbied local candidates to sign a document agreeing to do everything in their power to roll back property taxes during the next term of Cornwall City Council. One candidate for Mayor and 22 of the 29 candidates for City Council have signed this document. CAG hopes voters in Cornwall will keep the following list in mind when they vote before or on October 27th. The list is in alphabetical order of Candidates as they should appear on the ballot.
As of October 20th, 2014 the “Mayoral Candidates” who were prepared to sign and signed this undertaking to the voters of Cornwall to do everything in their power to “roll back” property taxes during the next term of Cornwall City Council are (is):
Jamie Gilcig
