Michele Allinotte helps Improve Access to Justice through Technology
TORONTO – Cornwall lawyer Michele R.J. Allinotte will lead the Ontario Bar Association’s TECHxpo 2.0 team at an October 23rd conference to help lawyers improve the efficiency, security and affordability of their services through technological innovation.
Hosted at the OBA’s Conference Centre, this annual event is designed to give lawyers hands-on exposure to hardware and software specifically designed to modernize the practice of law. TECHxpo 2.0 will connect practitioners with the developers and vendors of cutting-edge legal technologies. The full-day event will focus on lawyers’ ability to:
- PROTECT their data and devices from cybercrime, hackers and malware;
- EMBRACE new technology for a more efficient and effective office;
- MASTER social media to better build their brand;
- EXPLORE the ethical challenges posed by cloud computing; and
- EXPAND their arsenal of technological tools and applications.
“Today’s clients are demanding virtually instant answers, faster service as well as customized billing and product delivery. We will provide Ontario’s lawyers with the technological know-how to meet these demands,” said Allinotte.
She believes technology is especially critical to lawyers who serve relatively vast areas like Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. “In more sparsely populated regions where clients tend to be further from courts and their lawyers, the ability to use technology is critical to the ability to practice law. This program, which will be webcast, will help local lawyers provide better access to justice for clients in our region.”
“The effective use of technology will allow lawyers to do more in less time and with fewer resources. Lawyers will be able to better maintain a healthy work-life balance and continue to provide affordable, secure services to clients”, said Toronto lawyer Chris Jaglowitz, Allinotte’s Co-Chair of TECHxpo 2.0. “Technology is not, of course, the complete answer to access to justice issues but, if used effectively, it is part of the solution.”
