Cornwall Transit Operations and Maintenance employees will be honored during a breakfast ceremony on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 5:30 am to 8:30 am at the Cornwall Transit building at 863 Second Street West. Len Tapp, Division Manager of Cornwall Transit, along with Mayor Bob Kilger, Acting CAO Stephen Alexander and Municipal Works and Infrastructure Manager Norm Levac, will be presenting certificates and pins to employees with long service, safe driving and safe working records.
“We want to recognize the level of professionalism Cornwall Transit staff has shown while performing their daily duties” said Mr. Tapp. “The safety of our riders is very important to us and the enviable safe driving record of our employees reflects that this is something drivers take to heart.”
An average operator drives over 37,000 kilometres a year, more than twice the amount of kilometres an average person drives per year. Nine of the 34 drivers have twenty or more accident-free years.
The criteria used by Cornwall Transit, to administer its safe driving program, complies with the standards established by the Ontario Safety League and the Canadian Urban Transit Association.
Members of the media are welcome to attend the event. Staff will be available for photos and/or interviews.
