Mayor Bob Kilger travelled to Toronto on Tuesday, February 26th to participate in a meeting with Ontario Infrastructure Minister Glen Murray and other area politicians regarding the Glengarry Regional Water Supply Project.
Mayor Kilger attended the meeting to lend support to a request by the Townships of North Glengarry and South Glengarry to have the Provincial Government fund 90 per cent of the project, which carries an estimated capital cost of $60 million. Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell, Glengarry-Prescott-Russell MPP Grant Crack, North Glengarry Mayor Chris McDonell and South Glengarry Mayor Ian McLeod also participated in the meeting, which was held during the annual Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference in Toronto.
“This is an important project for the residents of Glengarry and the City of Cornwall is pleased to support our neighbours,” said Mayor Kilger. “This project presents a number of benefits and opportunities for several communities in Glengarry and for Cornwall.”
The project would see a new water line built to service the communities of Martintown, Apple Hill, Maxville and Alexandria. The line would connect to the City of Cornwall’s water distribution system.
