Cornwall Ontario — Benjamin Lecomte’s wraparound goal with 4:46 to play proved to be the winner, as Sorel shocked the crowd of 2,902 at the Civic Complex.Cornwall Ontario — The Sorel-Tracy HC Carvena scored five unanswered goals in the third period to storm from behind and defeat the River Kings 5-3 on Saturday night in Cornwall.

With Sorel trailing 3-0 in the third, Christian Deschênes started the comeback at 9:56 of the final period. Then, the HC Carvena scored two goals 33 seconds apart to even the score. Sébastien Rioux connected on a blast from the point, on the power play at 12:18, and Dominic Savoie was left all alone at the side of the net to even the score at 12:51. Yan Turcotte iced the win for Sorel with 1:10 to play.

Fred Piché took the loss in goal for Cornwall, giving up five goals on only 11 third-period shots.

Alex Bourret opened the scoring for the River Kings, banging in his own rebound on the power play at 3:35 of the second period. Then, Nicolas Corbeil, with his 20th goal of the season, gave the River Kings a two-goal lead, firing a wrist shot past Francis Gourdeau with 7:40 remaining in the second.

Pierre-Luc Faubert, with a great burst of speed, gave the River Kings a 3-0 at 6:35 of the third with a shorthanded goal. Then, the Kings fell apart.

It was a fight filled night at the Ed Lumley Arena, highlighted by a Francis Lessard rematch with Sébastien Laferriere. That was one of four second-period tilts: Bourret dropped the mitts with Lecomte; Anthony Pittarelli, giving up a quite a bit of size, battled Turcotte and Brennan Barker went toe-to-toe with Guillaume Coudé-Tremblay. The highlight of a scoreless first period was an entertaining scrap between Cornwall’s Mario Joly and Laferrière.

The announced stars were Lecomte (first star), Savoie (second star) and Corbeil (third star).

It was a difficult weekend for Cornwall, which came away empty handed in points. On Friday night in Trois-Rivieres, Marc-André Huot scored three goals and added two assists to lead le Caron et Guay to a 6-4 victory over the River Kings. Faubert scored twice for Cornwall, while Yves Sarault and Corbeil chipped in with singles. Loic Lacasse made 34 stops in goal but took the loss for Cornwall.

The River Kings are back in action next Saturday when Saint-Georges visits the Civic Complex. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
