Cornwall Ontario — Cornwall is going to have it’s first ever Walk for Pulmonary Hypertension on Saturday May 11th.
Shawna Brinkworth was inspired to organize the 1st Annual Cornwall Stride for Breath because her brother has Pulmonary Hypertension, and she wants to create awareness about this condition.
“The main reason for this event is to raise awareness. My brother, and many other are misdiagnosed, typically with something like asthma. Its years before people realize they have PH and by this time there is a lot of damage to the heart and lungs.
I want people to know what to look for, warning signs, mostly because maybe if someone else had made this disease known in my community, we could have had him tested years before.
Someone with PH has trouble walking a simple flight of stairs, or even getting out of bed so I wanted to do a 5k walk/run to show our support for people suffering from PH. We’ll walk and run for them so far over $2,000 has been raised for this event. This is only the beginning. There may not be a cure, but we can make a big change”, says Shawna Brinkworth.
On Saturday, May 11, 2013 join us to help those living with PH breathe easier. Participants can cruise the 5K course at their own pace (run or walk). Whether an individual or part of a team, register today and join us as we walk/run to raise awareness of PH and money to fund vital programs and support for the PH community. Space is limited so register now to ensure your team a spot in the race.
On Saturday meet at the Gazebo behind the RCAF building (240 Water Street West, in Cornwall Ontario). Team registration and race begin at the Gazebo Registration begins at 9:00 am. Race starts at 10:00am.
