MPP Jim McDonellCornwall Ontario — Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell is calling for Premier Kathleen Wynne to return before the Justice Committee to account for contradictions between her version of the facts leading to the Mississauga and Oakville gas plant cancellations and the version given by numerous other witnesses, including senior civil servants.

MPP McDonell commented: “Already, several political aides have admitted to deleting documents, correspondence and emails. In all likelihood, these actions were in breach of the law and whoever sanctioned them should be held accountable and could face very severe consequences.”

Senior civil servants have confirmed they provided the Government with estimates of total cancellation costs above the $40 million figure for Oakville and the $190 million figure for Mississauga that the Liberal Party stood by under oath.

MPP McDonell insists Ontario’s taxpayers deserve the truth: “We need a judicial inquiry to get to the bottom of this matter and determine how this happened, who’s accountable and if taxpayers can get their money back – while ensuring no government is able to do this again.”

In addition to Premier Wynne, the PC Caucus intends to recall former Premier Dalton McGuinty and former Energy Ministers Brad Duguid and Chris Bentley to testify in front of the Committee, as well as other Liberal political aides.

MPP McDonell concluded: “The Liberals are evading questions, spinning tales and illegally destroying evidence. It’s time for them to get their facts straight, and actually be accountable to Ontarians for a change.”
