Cornwall Ontario — For the third year in a row, a select group of agencies within Cornwall and area have joined forces to commemorate the International Day of the Girl in October. Maison Interlude House, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cornwall & District, Counselling and Support Services of SD&G, Partir d’un bon pas and the Boys and Girls Club of Cornwall/SDG have taken on the task of planning the third annual International Day of the Girl event: a FREE community event bringing girls between the ages of 8 and 16 together to enjoy workshops promoting healthy lifestyles, positive self-image, and overall wellbeing.
Last years’ event saw nearly 200 girls come together to enjoy workshops on arts, physical fitness, esthetics, healthy eating and more! “Our goal is to build self esteem and empower these girls to make healthy choices in life” says Renée Yelle of Maison Interlude House.
There’s also a space for parents to learn about the issues affecting young girls today and hear from local professionals about helpful services within the community.
“We’re incredibly lucky to have some fantastic volunteers and local businesses on board! We’ve also teamed up with TVCogeco to ensure that this year’s event is better than ever – and best of all, it’s FREE!” says Jessica Lenneau of Counselling and Support Services.
The event will take place on Saturday, October 11th 2014 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Le Citadelle Secondary School. Registration is now open and forms can be picked up at Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Boys and Girls Club, or can be found online on the events’ Facebook page: www.facebook.com/IDGCornwallJIFCornwall. Register today, as workshops fill up quickly on a first-come, first-served basis! Come out for some girl-power and tons of fun!
