Dear Seeker,
I was listening to the candidates espouse their thoughts regarding Arts and Culture for Cornwall in response to specific related questions, pull from a hat (1 of 10).
After expressing or reading their own prepared speeches, they on the most part barely had a mention or response to the questions drawn. When it came to a 30 second blip for Arts and Culture, most did indicate the need for the Arts and Culture to first ‘communicate with each other’ from a sense of cohesive planned recommendations and costs to be presented to the city for location and approval for bilaw purposes, NOT for a pot of gold monies.
The lack of cohesion with this group makes it difficult for the city council to even consider let alone sponsor. Until this time, we have had adhoc groups fighting each other all with a sense of entitlement and a shining night from city hall will pull out our tax dollars for initial start up funding as well as an annual stipend towards maintenance and even staffing.
Numerous city centres along the St. Lawrence River have advantaged themselves of their nearness to this beautiful location.
Now that some plans are moving forward towards a restaurant to locate near the Brown Field condos wouldn’t it be an important asset to make use of the pre-poured foundations of the current chemical tanks that are to be removed? I am serious with my suggestion of completing two large gazebos ramped together to allow for open air activities to take place in this location. One gazebo could hold a rather large orchestra (fr. high school professional) who specialize in soft easy music for the evening. The other gazebo would allow for open air dancing or tables and chairs all managed and controlled by the owners of the restaurant. Beautiful and relaxing waterfront evenings welcoming condo clients.
As this area is on a development tracking for even more condos, this could be an up sell for wanting to live in this area. Even a FISH AND CHIP HOUSE could be an alternative to Steak Out Wine In, both in the same area.
This could certainly be attractive and a go to area for tourist trade as a bonus. Let’s have a visual once more of the area so other thoughts can get into the mix.
Peterborough and Whitby already have a successful venue similar to this.
