Francis Lessard, the game’s first star, and rookie forward Antony Courcelles led the Cornwall attack with two goals and an assist apiece. The River Kings exploded for nine goals – including three on the powerplay – in the final 40 minutes of play.

Julien Corriveau (3 assists) and defenceman Mathieu Lecuc (1 goal, 2 assists) also had three-point nights for the River Kings, who improved to 2-4-0.

Newly re-acquired veteran forward Dominic Chiasson scored in his return to the Cornwall lineup. J.P. Caron, Nicolas Corbeil and Sasha Pokulok also found the back of the net.

Derek Famulare also made his River Kings debut this weekend. The 6’3”, 200 lb. forward from Montreal played overseas in Finland last year. The 24-year-old chipped in an assist on Saturday.

Loic Lacasse was victorious in goal with a 40-save performance.

On Friday night at Thetford-Mines, Pierre-Luc Sleigher scored an empty-net goal with 33 seconds to play as the Isothermic edged Cornwall 3-1.

Simon Gamache and Keven Veilleux had first-period markers for Thetford-Mines. Corbeil’s goal with 5:47 to play had given the Kings hope. Lacasse was once again outstanding in the crease, turning aside 38-of-40 shots.

The River Kings are back in action on Friday, Oct. 24 as they visit the Sorel-Tracy Eperviers (8 p.m.). The following night, Saturday, Oct. 25, Cornwall hosts the Jonquiere Marquis at the Civic Complex. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
