Zac Tierney gets game winner for the Cornwall Colts

Cornwall Ontario (CornwallColts.ca) — The Nepean Raiders tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Cornwall Colts would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Peter Angelopoulos put Cornwall up 3-1 in the second period, but Nepean pulled to within one on Josh Zizek’s tally 3:27 into the third period.

The Colts’ offense rang up 38 shots on the Raiders’ net.

Cornwall was led by Zac Tierney, who tallied one goal and one assist. Tierney scored 17:29 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Cornwall. Nick Lalonde provided the assist. Cornwall also got points from Grant Cooper, who also registered one goal and one assist and Angelopoulos, who also had one goal and one assist. Kevin Hope also scored for Cornwall. More assists for Cornwall came via Ross Craig, Tristan Elie, and Lawson MacDougall, who contributed one each.

Nepean forced the Colts goalie Denny Dubblestyne to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

The Raiders were helped by Broydon Stufko, who finished with one goal and two assists. Stufko scored on the power play 18:16 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cornwall. Nepean had gained a power play chance when Angelopoulos was whistled for high sticking. Brandon Watt picked up the assist. Nepean additionally got points from Zizek, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Watt, who also racked up one goal and two assists. In addition, Nepean received assists from Shane Riddell, who had one.

Denny Dubblestyne made 36 saves for Cornwall on 39 shots. The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Daniel Urbani recorded 34 saves for the Raiders. Nepean incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
