Cornwall River Kings Snapshot 013

CORNWALL – Stephane Goulet’s third-period marker was the difference as the St-George Cool FM skated to a 3-2 victory over the River Kings on Saturday night at the Civic Complex.

With the loss, Cornwall’s LNAH record slipped to 2-8.

Michael Tessier opened the scoring for the River Kings early in the contest. Tessier pounced on a Nicolas Corbeil rebound to beat a sprawling Hubert Morin at 2:52 of the first.

The Cool FM levelled the score moments later however, when former River King Olivier Proulx slid the perfect cross-crease pass to Jeremy Vigneault-Belanger, who beat Loic Lacasse high glove-side.

With 4:54 to play in the first, Pierre-Luc Faubert went in on a semi-breakaway and beat Morin with a slick backhand deke to give the Kings a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Maxime Gravel scored the only goal of the second, when he converted on a one-timer to beat Lacasse with 4:24 to play in the middle frame. The Cool FM outshot Cornwall 17-6 in the second.

Goulet rounded out the scoring at 5:02 of the third with his fourth goal of the season.

Cornwall was outshot 34-22 in front of a crowd of 1,837. Goulet (first), Eric Bertrand (second) and Tessier were the announced stars.

The River Kings are back in action next Friday, when they visit St-Georges. Cornwall’s next home games are Friday, Nov. 14 (vs. St-Georges) and Saturday, Nov. 15 (vs. Trois-Rivieres).

FRIDAY: On Friday night at Thetford-Mines, the River Kings came out strong, building a 4-1 lead, but fell 8-5 to the Isothermic. Antony Courcelles, Julien Houle, with his first LNAH goal, Nicolas Corbeil and Francis Lessard scored for Cornwall. Lacasse took the loss in goal. Pierre-Luc Sleigher and Maxime Villemaire led Thetford-Mines with two goals apiece.
