Cornwall Colts erase deficit to stun Nepean

Nepean Ontario — The Cornwall Colts climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Nepean Raiders, 6-4.

Cornwall never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Colts were down 3-0 after a goal by Nepean’s Josh Zizek at 7:57 in the second period. Cornwall knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Tristen Elie at 16:52 in the third period. The Colts netted the game winner at 18:38 in the third period on a goal by Elie.

Grant Cooper had one goal and two assists to lead Cornwall. Cooper scored 13:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Nepean. Tristan Conrad provided the assist.

The Colts kept the Raiders’ goalie busy throughout the game, and Francis Marotte made 33 saves on 39 shots. Cornwall outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Colts average 3.7 goals per contest.

Cornwall also got points from Cal Hofford, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Elie, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Zac Tierney, who also had one goal and one assist. Cornwall also had goals scored by Ross Craig and Kevin Hope, who scored one goal each. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Lawson MacDonald, Peter Angelopoulos, and Ryan Patulli, who each chipped in one.

Nepean was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 18 penalty minutes.

The Raiders were led by Nicolas Vlahos, who racked up one goal and one assist. Vlahos scored 3:54 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Nepean. Dakota Ford picked up the assist. Others who scored for Nepean included Luke McCaw and William White, who each put in one. More assists for Nepean came via Brandon Watt, who had two and Jody Sullivan and Brandon Belding, who contributed one each.

Cornwall took out Denny Dubblestyne after he had made 17 saves and installed Brett Nichol in goal, where he finished with six saves and the win. The Colts incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Nepean registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
