Cornwall Ontario (ChooseCornwall.ca) – When Troy Brownell and Derek Korak learned that one of Cornwall’s oldest businesses was closing shop, they saw an opportunity to go into business together.

The two life-long friends have re-opened Source Wood at 3310 Second Street East and are well on their way to building their own successful business story.

“The phones have been busy since we opened, and each day brings with it more customers,” says Mr. Brownell. “It has been a bit hectic at times, but we are moving forward towards having the business where we want it to be.”

Source Wood supplies the general public, local carpenters and contractors with wood flooring, staircases, molding and countertops.

“We do just about anything you can make out of wood,” says Mr. Brownell.
Source Wood’s new premises in the Cornwall Business Park has a showroom and warehouse, with a woodworking shop in the rear where staff can do custom milling and cutting. In addition to popular wood such as pine, maple, cedar and birch, Source Wood also stocks exotic woods such as Alder, Jatoba and walnut.

“We excel at satisfying our customers’ needs, be it a special wood or a unique piece such as a 14ft bull nose molding,” says Mr. Brownell. “And if we cannot source it, we can make it in house.”

The new owners of Source Wood have also benefited from the expertise of the former owners, who have shared their decades of business experience with the two young entrepreneurs. Mr. Brownell and Mr. Korac have also hired two former Source Wood employees.

“The future of Source Wood is to maintain the same quality of and craftsmanship that has been provided for the last 43 years,” says Mr. Brownell. “We hope to continue serving the Cornwall region for the next 43 more.”
