Shoeless Joe’s Sports Grill welcomed back its popular community-driven and sports-based program, “If Your Team Wins, Your Community Wins!”, for the second year and the results are in: Cornwall has come in second place!

After a tight race, Cornwall accumulated a total of 29,235.04 points, earning itself $10,000 to go towards a local community refresh project. Working closely with Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy, Shoeless Joe’s and the City have decided that the funds will go towards painting a centre line throughout the recreational bike path system. Cornwall’s recreational path is one of the city’s most popular recreation assets and one of the busiest, with cyclists, pedestrians, joggers, in-line skaters and many others making use of the path on a regular basis. This new centre line will help keep traffic in order.

“This generous prize of $10,000 from Shoeless Joe’s Sports Grill will help to support an important recreation facility in our community,” said Christine Lefebvre, Cornwall Division Manager, Department of Planning, Parks & Recreation. “The City would like to thank all of the teams who participated and made this win possible.”

Triumphant Second Year

“After last year’s success, we knew how passionate the local communities were about this program, and this year they’ve surpassed our expectations again,” says Frank Lopreiato, President, Shoeless Joe’s Sports Grill. “The ‘If Your Team Wins, Your Community Wins!’ competition is our way of giving back to local communities and keeping community sports alive. Cornwall worked so hard and is very deserving of the $10,000 and we can’t wait to see the new and improved recreation path!”

The additional winning communities are Kemptville in first place, winning $20,000 and Dufferin, North York in third, taking home $5,000, all courtesy of Shoeless Joe’s Sports Grill. It was a close competition up to the very end, but Kemptville pulled ahead and secured their win, edging Cornwall out of their first place position from last year.

The “If Your Team Wins, Your Community Wins!” competition, as part of the Home Team Advantage program, rewarded teams with points every time they ate at Shoeless Joe’s. The more that teams participated, the more points the community received.

All “If Your Team Wins, Your Community Wins!” points and standings can be found on a leaderboard at Shoeless Joe’s website.
