The MS Society of Canada – Cornwall & District Chaper helped raise awareness once again this year with their Annual MS Italian Night at the Royal Canadian Legion. This event has been happening in our great city for nearly 15 years and some will remember it from years past when it featured “The Fabulous Edsels”.
Thanks to the many corporate sponsors including Rona Home Centre, The Royal Canadian Legion, Casa Paolo, Scotiabank, Cornwall City Press, Cornwall Seaway News, Corus Entertainment, Riley’s Bakery and Tim Horton’s, a crowd of nearly 300 people enjoyed some delicious Italian food consisting of different entrees, chicken, salads and some gluten-free/vegetarian options to please everyone. The night started out with an impromptu debut of “The Pot Band” featuring the night’s volunteer dinner servers including staff from Scotiabank, Guy St-Jean, Thom Racine, Rick Shaver and Roy Perkins who paraded through the crowd with various kitchen utensils and pots. Some top-notch live entertainment kept the crowd dancing after the dinner featuring the Kealey-Greer All Star Band. (This band has been the entertainment for the past 4 years).
The MS Society relies on this and other events held throughout the year to help support its program. This year’s event raised approximately $7000. All of the funds raised at these events stay right here in Cornwall and are instrumental in helping local residents afflicted with MS with their needs such as assistive devices, support groups and research just to name a few.
Karen Torrie-Racine, Volunteer Office Manager & Education/Promotion Director with MS Society of Cornwall was very pleased with the event which sells out every year. She was quick to commend all of the sponsors and thankful to all those who attend. She also noted that the Royal Canadian Legion prepares the food and generously donates 95% of the cost back to the organization.
