logoThe SD&G County Library is pleased to announce the launch of a new ‘Library Express’ service depot to members who live in the Township of South Glengarry. This alternative service will be available because of a partnership established with the owners of the OLCO Gasoline Service Station, 18267 County Road 2 in Glen Walter.

“The SD&G County Library can now provide a cost-effective and efficient service delivery model to communities where we don’t have facilities”, said Karen Franklin, Director of Library Services. “Certainly South Glengarry, and specifically Glen Walter, is a community that deserves enhanced library services, and we have found a way to provide many of those services beyond the ‘bricks and mortar’ of a branch facility”.

With an SD&G County Library membership card, which is free to anyone living in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Library members can request books, DVDs and audiobooks online, and have requested items delivered each week to the OLCO station.  They can then be picked up at the station’s store anytime over the next week during OLCO’s business hours.  All shipped items will be already checked out to the member for an extended borrowing period, based on the type of material (some DVDs have a shorter borrowing period than books, for example).  When finished, borrowed items are then returned to the OLCO station and may either be handed in to the person at the store counter, or dropped into the Library’s book return box located outside.

“We are very pleased to have established this partnership with a prominent local business in Glen Walter. South Glengarry is an important, yet underserved, municipality for SD&G County Library services. We have a branch in Lancaster that provides full library services for 35 hours per week, and we have a neighbourhood branch in Williamstown that is open 15 hours per week.  Until now, we’ve had nothing for those living in one of the largest communities in SDG”, said Franklin.

The ‘Library Express’ depot at the OLCO station is set to start in early July. At this time, residents of South Glengarry are encouraged to contact the Library to register for membership, if they aren’t already members. Later this summer the SD&G County “Pop Up Library” will come to Glen Walter, to introduce the whole range of Library services available, and to promote this new depot. More information can be found at www.sdglibrary.ca, by contacting the Library administration office at 613-936-8777, or by visiting any of our eighteen branches, especially those in South Glengarry.
