Cornwall Colts pick up first win at CCHL Showcase

Cornwall Ontario – The Cornwall Colts picked up their first win of the CCHL season during the league’s annual kick off Showcase at the Bell Sensplex this past weekend.

The Colts blanked the Pembroke Lumber Kings 2-0 on the strength of 26 saves from Brett Nichol. Keegan Mulhearn scored both Colts goals including a shorthanded marker. The Colts out-shot the Lumber Kings 38-26. Mulhearn was named game MVP for the Colts.

In the Colts 2nd game of the weekend, they filled the Kanata Laser’s net with 6 goals but were on the short end of a 7-6 final. Nick Lalonde paced the Colts with a goal and 3 assists. Grant Cooper had 2 goals and 1 assist. Lawson MacDougall, Grant Craig and Keegan Mulhearn (short-handed) rounded out the goal scoring. The Colts outshot Kanata 39-21 with Liam Lascelle taking the loss. Cooper earned the Colts game MVP honours.

The Ottawa Junior Senators flexed their muscles in a 6-2 win over the Colts to wrap up the CCHL Showcase. Tanner Spink and Nick Lalonde scored for the Colts. The Jr. Sens outshot the Colts 29-22. Brett Nichol was tagged with the loss. Lalonde was named game MVP for the Colts.

“We were good for two of the three games, especially some of the younger players,” said Colts Coach Ian MacInnis. “We know where we stand and we have some work to do.”

The Colts open the Ed Lumley portion of their season with a home game this Thursday against Brockville. Game time is 7:30pm. The Colts then play the Braves in Brockville Friday night.
