Cornwall Ontario — The month of October was Breast Cancer Awareness month in Canada. Many groups and organizations raised money for this worthy cause including local hockey teams.
The Ontario Hockey Academy (OHA) Girls White Team (Midget AA) raised $450.00 for Breast Cancer Awareness with their on-ice performance during the month of October.
Many women hockey players sported pink laces, or pink string, or even pink hockey tape in support of the fundraiser last month including OHA players.
The money raised was presented to the Cornwall chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society last week.
“I am very proud of the effort put forth by these girls in helping raise funds for the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign during the month of October. Regardless of the amount, I think the team learned a great deal about responsibility and giving back to the community by fundraising for such a worthy cause”, said OHA Girls White Team Coach Brad Nicholson.
Money raised helps fund research, advocates for health care policies, and provides resources and support to patients and families inflicted with cancer.
It is estimated that 25,000 women and 220 will be diagnosed with breast cancer in Canada this year, and that about 5,000 women and 60 men will die from the disease in 2015.
