Cornwall Ontario — This is the fifth consecutive year that students from the Ontario Hockey Academy have gone canvassing door to door to collect non perishable food for the Agape. On Monday evening a whopping 5,000 pounds of food was collected, a 20% increase from the previous year.
“Thank you to the Ontario Hockey Academy for collecting over 5,000 pounds of food for our food bank! And thank you to everyone who donated when the high schoolers came knocking at your door. We’re very grateful to live in such a generous community”, said Alyssa Blais who is the Executive Director of the Agape.
“It’s for a good cause, and it is the least we can do,” says Taylor Davis who is a member of the Social Committee at the Ontario Hockey Academy.
Student Athletes engaged in this food collecting activity will have the opportunity to volunteer and learn more about civic responsibility. The Agape Centre relies 100% on the donations of time, food, money, clothing, and other household items from the community to help families that access the services.
“The Agape Centre plays such an important role in providing support in the Cornwall community. We are truly happy that we can play a role in ensuring the center is able to continue to meet our city’s needs”, says Principal Jesse Ferguson.
