Cornwall, Ontario — On Saturday, December 12, Zumba Cornwall participants will be hitting the streets once again for their popular Zumba caroling fundraiser “Freezin’ for a Reason.” The event features Zumba carolers dancing door to door in a selected Cornwall neighbourhood, asking for donations in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cornwall and District. Last year’s event raised $1200 in just 90 minutes in support of BBBS free mentoring programs for children and youth in the Cornwall area.
“Last year people were running down the street to support us… they will either pay us to stay or pay us to leave… either way it’s for a good cause!” said event organizer Christal Bowen.
Residents in the neighbourhood will be treated to Christmas music and over 40 enthusiastic Zumba carolers performing choreographed dancing in the street. Homes in the selected area will receive event flyers in advance so they may prepare to donate if they wish. Zumba carolers will be treated to hot chocolate at the home of Linda Arsenault-Graham of NAV Spa courtesy of Diane Bosco of Tim Hortons on Marleau Avenue.
“We really appreciate the support of Christal and Zumba Cornwall, year after year organizing this really fun evening. Any amount helps our agency, so we thank all of the residents who support this great event,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director Amanda Brisson.
Zumba carolers will be leaving St. Peter’s Church on Second Street East at 6 p.m. and will move as a group into the subdivision across from the church. Residents around the Belvedere Crescent and Concorde Avenue area are invited to enjoy the Zumba caroling and support the event in whatever way they can.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cornwall and District serves over 400 children and youth ages 6-16 throughout the Cornwall area. The non-profit organization relies solely on United Way funding and community donations to operate seven different free mentoring programs, including the In School Mentoring and On-on-One Mentoring programs.
