Cornwall Ontario – With a crash of drums and a flash of light, the Seaway Valley Theatre Company is pleased to officially reveal the identity of the musical production for their 2016-2017 season. “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” the perennial family favourite by Tim Rice and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, will be staged at Cornwall’s Aultsville Theatre in February 2017.
One of the earliest and most popular of their many collaborations, “Joseph” tells the biblical story of Jacob’s favoured eleventh son of twelve, a boy blessed with the gift of prophecy and interpreting dreams. The show is as vivid and diverse as Joseph’s coat of many colours, with a wide array of musical styles, rich characters, and splashy dance numbers. The show is produced by Jennifer Bellemore and Christiane Taylor, and directed by Brenda Quesnel. Brian McCartney is the musical director. Auditions will be held on September 18th and 20th at Trinity Anglican Church hall, 105 Second Street West, from 7:00 pm top 9:00 pm. All manner of actors, singers, and dancers will be required, including a children’s chorus. The show will be performed on February 17, 18, 24 and 25, 2017 at 7:30 pm at the Aultsville Theatre, 2 St. Lawrence Drive, Cornwall. A matinée will also be given on Sunday, February 19 at 1:30 pm.
While the annual musical is the SVTC’s biggest event, don’t forget there are four more shows in the season that are equally worthy of your attention. We’re currently in rehearsals for our autumn production, Ken Ludwig’s operatic farce, “Lend Me a Tenor,” to be staged in October. December will see us at the Aultsville Theatre with our annual children’s play, “Shrek the Musical JR.” Immediately following “Joseph,” we’ll start work on our staging of John Cariani’s ever popular romantic comedy, “Almost, Maine,” which will be performed in May 2017. And we’ll round out our season in June 2017 with Katherine DiSavino’s comedy of illicit unmentionables, “Nana’s Naughty Knickers.”
Advance tickets for all the shows of our new season will be available starting Thursday, September 1st. You may purchase them online at our ticket outlet, www.svtc.theticketwicket.ca. They’ll also be available in person or by phone at the SD&G United Way/Centraide office, 405 Fourth Street West. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and their phone number is 613-932-2051.
