Dreary winter weather is gone for good and going outside no longer means trudging through heaps of slush and bracing yourself for biting winter winds. Now that it feels great to get outside, it’s time to make the most of what Toronto has to offer when the weather is good. Toronto is one of the biggest cities in Canada and boasts an array of activities on any given day, but living large on a budget isn’t exactly easy. That’s where this list of free and cheap Toronto springtime activities can come in handy.
When money is tight, it can be hard to even imagine budgeting for entertainment. For those who struggle with paying off debt and making paycheques last between paydays, it’s always good to know that there are other borrowing options out there instead of using high-interest credit cards or requesting a loan from your bank. Easy payday loans offer a huge relief for those who need to fix their cash flow situation before their next paycheque arrives.
It takes time and commitment to master your personal budget, entertainment included. And who isn’t looking for more ways to save money? With that in mind, here are four Toronto springtime activities you can do for free (or very little money). Read on.
Free Museum Days
Toronto has an excellent collection of art and artefacts in some of its world-class collections. While an evening at a special exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario or Royal Ontario Museum might cost you a pretty penny, you can always plan your museum visits around the regular free visiting times. For instance, the AGO is fee on Wednesdays from 6-8:30pm and the ROM offers free general admission every third Monday during 5:30-8:30pm.
Evergreen Brick Works
What was once a collection of deteriorating heritage buildings is now a stunning example of urban sustainability and design. The Evergreen Brick Works is located in the Don Valley and was once named one of the top ten geotourism destinations in the world. The site offers plenty of programming for children and adults and even boasts a Saturday Farmers Market once the weather gets good.
A visit to Evergreen Brick Works is a great way to make sure you get your daily recommended dose of fresh air while giving children and adults the opportunity to explore a space that is truly unique to the rest of the city.
The Toronto Flower Market
April showers brings May flowers, but where do you go to smell and see the prettiest flowers in Toronto? The Toronto Flower Market is a monthly event that runs from May – October. The market is a celebration of Ontario-grown flowers and plants and is an excellent place to connect with growers and florists in the community.
Even if you just want to stroll along through and smell the roses, a trip to this market won’t cost you a dime. But you might have a hard time leaving without some sorts of beautiful bouquet in your hand.
Toronto Island
Okay, so this activity isn’t completely free since you’ll have to pay between $4-$8 for a return trip on the ferry, but that’s hardly anything for how different the island feels and the experience you get from a visit. You can visit Centre Island (no extra fees included) to explore the gardens, small amusement park, restaurants, and maybe even finish off with a picnic near the water.
Don’t miss out on having a good time in Toronto this spring. There are plenty of activities that suit any budget, no matter its size. Now get out there and explore!
