Youth mourning the death of a movie celebrity more than that of Nelson Mandela is not a reflection on today’s youth. It is actually a reflection on us adults. There are some great parents and great teachers out there, but as a whole we are not doing enough to teach our children what really matters. Before we point our fingers at what is wrong with society, and before we start blaming children, we should take a good long look in the mirror first. Education starts at home, it continues at school, and it keeps on happening for the rest of our lives. We as adults must build the foundations for our children. Nelson Mandela evoked change through hard work, and we must do the same. If young people do not know who Nelson Mandela is, don’t judge them, teach them.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.
-Nelson Mandela (1918-2013).
