The Seaway Roller Derby Girls are starting off their second season with their 2nd annual Spring Fever Roller Disco at the St. Lawrence College gym on Saturday, March 23rd from 7pm to 10pm. Tickets are $7 each or $25 for a family of four. Limited skate rentals are available so come early or bring your own quads or inline skates.
“The Roller-Disco is our biggest pre-season fundraiser. The money raised will help us with purchasing additional equiptment, uniforms and assist us with away game travelling costs”, explains Penny Rudderham who is a member of the Seaway Roller Derby girls.
When asked why she likes to particpate in Roller Derby, Rudderham explains, “I love being apart of this amazing sport. It’s face paced, quirky and a lot of fun. The people are amazing! Everyone is here for their own reasons but for me it’s an outlet from my day to day hectic life.”
Of course the roller disco is not just for the Roller Derby girls, it is an experience for the whole family! “My whole family loves Roller Disco’s! My boys love putting on their skates and pretending to be roller derby princes for the night. I love taking them so they can grow to love skating as much as I do. They are just as excited as I am and can’t wait for Saturday”, says Rudderham.
The Roller Derby girls are currently practicing three times a week in anticipation of their first home and away games. The season starts this May! For info on game times and locations visit: www.seawayrollerderbygirls.com
