Horticultural Society beautifies entrance to City Landfill site

Members of the Cornwall and District Horticultural Society recently planted a new flower bed at the entrance to the City of Cornwall Landfill site.

The project recognizes the strong partnership that exists between the CDHS and the City of Cornwall.

For several years now, the City has assisted the CDHS with its major fundraiser – the annual Bark and Compost Day. It is held at the Landfill site and residents are able to buy mulch and compost in bags or scoops.

The CDHS – also known as Friends of the Garden – uses the monies raised on this day to not only fund its monthly meetings and special events, but also to give back to the community. Past and present projects include community gardening at a number of venues around the city, donations of tulip bulbs for the cenotaph and container gardens given to local senior residences, planting at Habitat for Humanity homes, Cornwall Hospice, the Living Wall at the Cornwall Public Library and monetary donations and support to Seaway Valley Community Health Centre’s Community Gardens and the Children’s Treatment Centre.
