This current era is marked with technological advancements. Most of these advancements helped shape the world we are in today. There’s an evil and a good side of technology, the latter usually overlooked. Yes, today your data can be accessible for the world to see, which can put you in dangerous situations. However, technology can also keep you safe from harm. Here’s how you can be safe thanks to technology

Data Protection

Personal, public, and private data are valuable, and so there are ways to ensure any data is being protected from any breaches.

Alerts

There are settings in your phone or device to send you alerts when there’s suspicious activity on your account. For instance, in case someone unauthorized is trying to hack your accounts. When alerted, you can change passwords, freeze or cancel accounts, and prevent your phone or device from getting hacked. The sooner you realize that your phone is getting hacked, the sooner you’ll be able to prevent hackers from doing damage and stealing your data.

Cyber Security

It’s also referred to as information technology security. Cybersecurity is important because there’s a lot of political, governmental, financial, and medical data and information that is sensitive and would be damaging if exposed. Companies hire consultancy services to make sure that cyber security is working at its best. They test your security system to check that it’s immune to cyber attacks. This is crucial to ensure all the company’s data and information is safe.

To protect backups from ransomware, companies also use highly secure and encrypted backup systems that are regularly updated to prevent any vulnerabilities. We all know the importance of backing up our data. It’s a safety net in case any mishap happens, like losing your phone or laptop. However, backups can also be vulnerable to ransomware attacks.

Devices Locked When Stolen

Now, most device makers give you the option to remotely lock your phone, or laptop if it gets stolen. This will save your data from being accessible to thieves. GPS services can help you locate and possibly retrieve the stolen item.

Password Protection

Passwords have been there since the dawn of technology, but they aren’t hard to be hacked. Now there are new technologies like face recognition and fingerprints. Face recognition is the most secure way and unless you have an evil identical twin, your data should be safe.

Personal Security

These are new technologies that can keep an individual safe in different circumstances:

Emergency Alert App

There’s a new app that has great features to save you from getting harmed. There are emergency alert apps, available for both iOS and Android phones, which will ask you from emergency contacts. In case you feel in danger, you hit the alarm button which will send them a message to alert your emergency contacts. The apps can also send them your location until you’re home safe.

Distract-Free Driving

Driving while texting or talking on the phone is one of the major causes of car accidents. There are a few apps you can use to cure you of distracted driving. The apps will disable social media, emails, text, or anything that would take your attention from driving. At the same time, they still allow you to make emergency calls.

There are other more specific ways that technology protects the individual. There are health-related wearables that monitor those with heart problems and save them a trip to the emergency rooms for analysis. Other wearables are used for workers in hazardous environments or industrial workers that monitor their bodies and their surroundings to minimize dangerous accidents.

Property and Financial Protection

Control Alarms

Having a security camera is a good measure to save you from trespassers and intruders. Now, thanks to new technologies, you can use your phone to control and monitor the cameras and lock the doors at home. You can get access anytime when you’re out shopping or on vacation miles away.

Banking

Banking online is safer than its reputation and is convenient as well. You can choose which devices are safe to access your account and so if a different device tries to do so, you’re alerted. Moreover, there are multiple security steps to take on your devices so that it’s deemed safe. That includes asking security questions or asking for your fingerprints. Banking websites use SSL certificates that encrypt your information, like card details, usernames, and passwords and protect them from hackers.

The best thing about technology is that it’s always in development. There are tech geniuses out there that are working to make life, not only easier but also safer for us. Public and private data can be saved thanks to cybersecurity. There are always new apps that can help you from situations like getting robbed or getting in a car accident. You don’t have to think much about the probability of getting hacked. All of this eliminates worries and maintains a sense of security.
