C♥RNWALL Gallery In Motion launches today

C♥RNWALL Gallery In Motion is an effort to bring awareness and support to the arts in our region, focusing on visual arts and artists. Through this project we worked with five local artists, Tracy Davies, Pierre Giroux, Yafa Goawily, Louise Mignault, and Laura Stevens. For these artists, their art is their prime means of income. As a result, they have been hit hard by Covid.

Each of these artists created an original artwork on the theme of celebrating our community- what makes our community uniquely wonderful!  The resulting artwork will be featured for sale on T shirts. Our hope is that people will purchase these shirts, wear them proudly, and create a living ‘gallery in motion’ of original art featuring the work of local artists.

Shirts will be available as of February 3, 2021 through Mike’s Printing, www.mikesprinting.ca   Cost is $25 for a short sleeve T shirt.  You can also purchase a long sleeve T shirt for $30 (note: there is limited availability and colours for long sleeve T’s, please reach out to Mike before ordering).  Pictures of the designs, as well as information on sizing and colours, is available through Mike’s Printing, www.mikesprinting.ca   We also have a FB event page at https://www.facebook.com/events/3981451615240114  (CRNWALL Gallery In Motion)

Each artist will also create one original of their artwork.  In March these originals will be on display at the new home of Mike’s Printing, downtown Pitt Street.  The original artworks will, at that time, be available to purchase. Further details will be forthcoming once we have a date for the grand opening of Mike’s Printing. In the meantime, everyone who purchases a shirt between now and the opening of the store will be entered into a draw for a $50 gift certificate that can be used at Mike’s Printing.

Why focus on the arts in our community? The arts have been hit hard by Covid. Venues, performances, events … all closed and no idea when that might change.  Despite this the arts remain as a voice in our community.  Art is the creative expression of ideas and imaginations. The arts, in all its forms, bring vision and hope to a community.  It is the arts that carries the message of the heart of community to the people who call it home.  We hope through C♥rnwall Gallery In Motion, to share our pride, our hearts, and our hope for the future of this community we call home.

This is an opportunity for you to own an original artwork that celebrates our community,  wear it proudly, and literally create a live moving gallery that says “This is my Cornwall. This is my HOME! I love C♥RNWALL”  We hope that this is the first of a series of activities celebrating community through art.

A huge thank you to Choose Cornwall and the Downtown Business Improvement Association for their support of this project as well as to Mike’s Printing for hosting printing and sales of the artwork. All proceeds of sales will go towards supporting artists in our community.

The artwork can be viewed online at www.mikesprinting.ca  or on our FB event page.
