While skateboarding is undeniably cool, there is a possibility you might get injured or hurt others in practice, especially if you are skating in the wrong area or don’t wear protective gear. 

Skateboarding is considered an extreme sport; it is deemed to be risky and out of the norm. Because of this, if you are considering getting into the sport, there are some things that you should know to make sure that you are as safe as possible.   1. Don’t Skate If You’re Unwell

The first safety tip for skateboarding is to be physically fit. Skateboarding might be very physically demanding. You can end up with some serious injuries if you already have underlying health issues. 

Even if you are not going to be out on a skateboard all day long, you should still make sure that you are as physically fit as possible. This will help to reduce the likelihood of you getting injured when doing your tricks.

  • As a Beginner, Avoid Difficult Stunts

The second safety tip for skateboarding is to learn how to properly execute your flips and kicks before moving to skate on skate parks. Start by practicing your skills on a flat surface before moving to more advanced techniques.

Learning how to heelflip well is essential to your success on your board, but it is also equally important to learn how to flip correctly. You can heelflip either by lifting your back foot up and directly pushing against the front of your skateboard with it or by raising your front foot and simply stomping your heel against the floor. These techniques are effective, but learning how to heelflip can ensure that you avoid injury.

  • Test Your Speed Limit and Levels

Another essential skateboard safety tip is to stay away from tricks that require a lot of speed, especially as a beginner. Many people try to go faster than they feel comfortable on their skateboards, leading to them getting injured. Don’t be in a hurry to look cool like the more experienced skaters. Take your time, test your limits, and speed up with time. 

Remember that if you intend to go faster than is safe for you on your skateboard, you should plan your runs carefully. Always allow plenty of time to complete your runs, and make sure you’re practicing on a safe surface. 

  • Avoid Crowded Areas 

If you are interested in practicing tricks at a skate park, one of the essential safety tips for skateboarding that you should keep in mind is to stay away from crowds. Skate parks are sometimes situated in a section of regular parks. Avoid feeling too confident and leaving the boundaries of your skating area. This increases the possibility of you bumping into an innocent standby. 

  • Use the Right Gear 

Your skateboard is your partner when you’re learning various tricks. It’s important to pick one that is reliable. Of course, with the many boards available in the market, choosing the right one can be challenging.
