Moving can be quite a stressful time for most people. Gathering all your belongings and furniture can take up time. Apart from this, there is also the worry of damaging these items while in transit to your new location.

Cardboard boxes are only suitable for less fragile items. Moving blankets have become very popular with people who move to a new home by themselves. It is a secure way of transporting your furniture and fragile items.

What are moving blankets?

Moving blankets are heavy-duty blankets made of polyester and cotton. They are specifically made to cover fragile items and prevent them from getting damaged while in transit. When the moving van is on the way to your new home, objects and appliances may move freely around from the van turning and going over bumps.

Most of the time, objects can easily crash into something else and get damaged. There is no way of making a van drive a certain way to prevent this from happening. Moving blankets provide a cushion to the objects and prevent them from getting destroyed. This is the same for the items within the blanket.

They cover the object inside and prevent movement, scratching, and much more. You can relax and know that your items will remain in one piece when arriving at your new home.

How do you use a moving blanket?

It is quite simple to use a moving blanket and the best thing is that you can use it on anything you need. You can cover any object, be it a table, chairs, plates, fridge, and much more. If you have items in a cardboard box but feel you need extra protection, the blanket can be used to cover the box for extra protection.

Get the item you need moved and wrap the blanket around it. If it is a large item, you may need to use more than one blanket. Tape is quite good in keeping the blanket together, or you can also use moving bands. Once you are sure that the item is one hundred percent secure, you can then put it into the moving van. These blankets are also super easy to unwrap, so you are not wasting time on unpacking.

How much do moving blankets cost?

Most of them range in size and cost. The standard size is about 72 inches by 54 inches. These can go up to 80 inches. The price of these blankets varies greatly and can be anywhere between $17 and $200.

The important bit here is to always check the quality of the blanket before purchasing it. You want to make sure that the blanket does not tear and can hold your items securely. The smaller blankets will always be cheaper than the larger 72 inches by 80 inches blankets. You can also get them in packs, which may be more cost-efficient.

Do moving companies provide moving blankets?

They actually do offer them, yes. Some companies will offer them for free as you are already paying for their services to move your belongings. Other companies rent out the blankets to you for a fee. Once you are done with them, you return them back to the company in the same condition as they were given to you.

Most moving companies will already have these and use them on your belongings. This is mainly because they do not want to damage your items in transit. It is a much more efficient way of moving someone’s belongings without the worry of scratching, breakage, or smashing.

What else can moving blankets be used for?

Moving is not the only thing these blankets are used for. They have a lot of other uses also, as follows:

Sleeping Bag Padding – It can get quite cold sleeping on the floor outside at night. The blankets are heavy-duty and provide a lot of heat and protection against the cold floor.

Car Seat Cover – They can be used to easily cover your seats for extra softness and warmth. Apart from this, they are easily removed and the cost of them is much cheaper than buying actual car seat covers.

Soundproofing – Because of how they are made, you can actually use these blankets to soundproof a room. It prevents the travel of noise from one room to another.

Storage – They are ideal for wrapping your items and placing them into storage. They will not get damaged and will not start to grow mould over time as they are concealed.

Pets – It can be used for your pets to either sleep on or in your car for them to sit on. This will prevent your seats from getting dirty. The blankets are easy to wash which makes them ideal when using for pets.

Why you should use a moving blanket!

Apart from keeping your items safe, they also prevent your floors from getting damaged when moving the item into the van. You can use the blanket as a floor cover also which will prevent your floors from getting damaged when moving a fridge or a piece of furniture. You can drag items on this heavy-duty cover also without damaging the floor or the item.

Once your belongings are wrapped in the blanket, they are protected from dust, which means much less cleaning for you when un-wrapping the items. A moving blanket is great to use when you have some extra space in a box. It will fill the space and prevent the items inside from flying around and breaking.

Moving blankets are safe, cheap, and hassle-free. You can feel secure in the fact that your belongings will not get damaged in transit. As well as this, you can then re-use the blankets for whatever you may need as they are washable and re-usable.
