Within minutes of installation, Cornwall residents were trying out the new features. They were purchased from North Dundas in 2020. Ramps were resurfaced this spring and installed last week.
“We are very excited to add these new features to our existing skateboard park at Optimist Park, adjacent Lemay St. The new park configuration along with the additional features are welcome improvements to the park that will enhance the user experience,” said Jamie Fawthrop, Manager of Recreation and Facilities. “I’d like to acknowledge and thank Claude Regnier, a local skateboard pioneer, who has generously volunteered his time to design the new park layout. We are very grateful to have Mr. Regnier share his expertise with us for this project.”
Skatepark features are now closer together, which will improve flow for users on skateboards, scooters, and bikes.
“Over the past year, the pandemic has highlighted the importance of public outdoor recreation opportunities for communities,” added Fawthrop. “These improvements could not have come at a better time.”
