Effective immediately, Bernadette Clement has resigned from her position as Mayor following her appointment to the Senate of Canada.
Council will decide how to fill the vacancy during the next regular meeting on Monday, June 28th. Per the Municipal Act, Council must decide within 60 days whether to appoint a person to fill the vacancy or hold a by-election.
Councillor Todd Bennett is the acting mayor for the month of June and will chair the meeting held on June 28th.
City business will continue normally, with the acting mayor assuming all essential duties, responsibilities, and abilities of mayor.
Until a new mayor is appointed or elected, one councillor per month will assume the position of acting mayor.
Bernadette Clement was first elected to the position of Councillor in 2007 and has been a member of Council since that time. In the fall of 2018, Bernadette was elected as Mayor for the term 2019 to 2022.
