Choose a career that you enjoy, and you won’t have to worry about work for the rest of your life. Every task will appear to be effortless when you’re doing something you enjoy. If you enjoy working out and are obsessed with staying in shape, the idea of becoming a professional trainer has probably entered your mind at least once. If you go to the gym on a daily basis, a little additional time won’t make much of a difference to you, but it could have a huge impact on your career. There’s nothing stopping you from turning your fitness hobby into a successful career if you’re prepared to put in the effort and acquire some job training.

A personal trainer’s role is to give their clients exercise advice, guidance about fitness techniques and prescriptions. As a personal trainer, you’ll be responsible for motivating clients to achieve their fitness objectives. Choosing a subject of specialization is the first step toward becoming a fitness trainer.

That’s right! To become a specific type of personal trainer, you must choose from a variety of additional professional choices. You must choose your job path based on a number of criteria, including your preferences, mentality, whether you like to work with groups or individuals, the amount of money you desire, and the credentials you currently hold or will obtain. To help you get a brief idea, some of the many career paths you can opt for when deciding to be a fitness instructor are:

Gym instructor; individual or group trainer

Independent trainer; work privately or for corporation employees

Online personal trainer

Fitness trainer on cruise ships or at Spas

Retirement fitness trainer

High school fitness trainer

Physical therapist

Sports nutritionist

Health and wellness coach, etc.

Get Involved

After considering what career path you want to go for, you need to start getting involved in its world. Whether you go for an internship, a part-time job, or try to shadow someone in the same career, make sure that you learn and absorb how that world works. You probably have little to no experience being a professional in the field and so, on top of your extensive knowledge of fitness and workouts, you also need to properly get some hands-on, real-life experience.

Personal Training Education

Although many professionals in the personal training industry have professional degrees in physical fitness, exercise science, and related subjects, a four-year degree is not a requirement to work in the fitness industry. To work as a personal trainer, you must have a high school diploma and formal training in the field you wish to pursue. Getting additional education is your choice, whether it’s a formal college degree or a training course, it will certainly improve your chances of success.

Get Certified

Unlike a formal degree, fitness training certification is a requirement in many states and without it, you’re not allowed to carry out proper training. Even if it’s not compulsory in some states, it’s generally a good idea to have proper certification in case an employer demands it. There are numerous associations that offer certifications for personal trainers, fitness experts, and health coaches. These organizations provide the basic guidelines for a CPT, (certified professional trainer) while also specializing in different fields. From there, you can get different types of certifications depending on your career.

Create A Social Media Presence

Social media marketing is one of the most effective forms of marketing in this day and age. A majority of our population uses social media every day, and so, it’s the best channel to advertise your services and skills. The best part is, social media marketing doesn’t even require tons of money or expensive training. As a matter of fact, you can start by doing it yourself. Create social media accounts for your services and start promoting. You can also write health and fitness blogs to attract an audience to your services.

Build Your Network

While social media has a lot of reach, building a network in your sector of work is also a smart idea. Make sure you have solid relationships with other health professionals who could help you if necessary. Good relationships will not only help you advance in your career and professional credibility, but they will also help you grow your business.

Isn’t it a dream come true to turn your lifelong interest into a rewarding job? You’ll not only be doing something you enjoy every day, but you’ll also be making a lot of money doing it. However, in order to accomplish this transition successfully, you must strive toward your goal. You’ll need to put in a lot of effort at every stage of the process, from picking a professional path to earning certifications and expanding your network.
