How to Choose Between Braces and Invisalign

Everybody wants straight teeth. Unfortunately for some, though, they don’t come naturally. Thanks to modern technology, however, even if your teeth are crooked and wonky, you can fix them. There are several different options you can consider using, though Invisalign and standard metal braces are the most popular.

If you are trying to choose between these two treatment options, then you are no doubt having trouble weighing up their pros and cons (since in many ways, they are very similar forms of treatment).

This post will help you to choose between braces and Invisalign, by explaining their individual advantages and disadvantages.

Regular Changes

The one complaint that a lot of people have about standard metal braces is how uncomfortable they are, and how they can never be taken off (other than by a dentist). Sometimes, food can get stuck in them, and they can begin wearing away. According to the folks on this website though, one of the best things about Invisalign braces is that they are changed every fortnight, meaning you don’t have to worry about things getting stuck inside them for months at a time. Also, they can be taken off, but that is something that will be explored further on in this article. Because they are changed every fortnight, they are cleaner, safer, and more comfortable for you to use. Each pair is custom fitted to your mouth too and does not have to be screwed in as metal braces do.

Daily Wear

When a pair of metal braces are fitted, the patient must wear them every day until they are removed by their dentist. With Invisalign braces, they only need to be worn for around 22 hours a day. This still might seem like a lot, but there is a big difference between wearing something for 22 hours a day and for 18 months.  If your Invisalign braces are obstructing you from eating or doing something, you can take them out. Also, you can enjoy two hours of relief from them each day.

Removable

As mentioned in the two previous sections, Invisalign braces can be removed. This means that if you want to take them out to talk to somebody or if they are annoying you, you can take them out. You shouldn’t take them off for more than two hours a day because they will not be as effective, though. Taking them off for more than two hours a day makes wearing them pointless.  You should wear them every day, more or less all day. The ability to remove Invisalign braces makes them much better than standardized metal ones, which are stuck in place for over a year.

Efficacy

In terms of efficacy, Invisalign braces are just as effective as metal braces. One of the best things about them is that they don’t need to be worn for as long, either. On average, Invisalign braces straighten a person’s teeth in 3-12 months, whereas metal braces can take upwards of 18.  It is important to visit your dentist regularly during the period that you are wearing Invisalign so that they can inspect your mouth and tell you whether or not you need to continue wearing them. The efficacy of Invisalign makes them a much better choice than standard braces.

Eating Food

When you have Invisalign in, you can eat whatever you want. You don’t have to worry about having to omit certain foods from your diet. As mentioned already, you can remove them if you have to eat something that your Invisalign is interfering with. Something else that’s worth considering is the fact that when you have Invisalign in, you are able to keep your teeth a lot cleaner. Metal braces can make it very hard for people to clean their teeth, for obvious reasons. Invisalign pop right out, so you can brush your teeth.

Cost

The only downside to Invisalign is its cost. Otherwise, they are a much better option than metal braces, in all truth. One good thing that you need to know though is that most surgeries offering Invisalign treatment also offer payment plans, meaning you can access Invisalign treatment even on a budget. Such payment plans usually take place over a period of a year or two. You pay monthly for your treatment. When you set up a payment plan, bear in mind that you are going to have to pay interest. The interest paid is not usually a lot, though. Try to find the best interest rate and deal if you are going to need a payment arrangement.

In summary, Invisalign braces are a much better option than metal ones, as long as you can afford them. Owning a pair of Invisalign braces could change your life for the better. With straighter teeth and a better smile, you will feel more confident, and much happier.
