Alexandria, ON – A financial contribution from Desjardins is helping bring Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) closer to a major milestone: providing CT scans in Alexandria.
The funding, awarded through Desjardins Ontario Credit Union’s Community Development Fund, supports Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Bring It Home CT Scanner Campaign, which aims to raise $3.5 million by March 2027 for the hospital’s first onsite CT scanner.
For patients and families across Glengarry and surrounding rural communities, the project promises a meaningful change in how they access diagnostic care. Currently, patients who require CT scans must travel to other hospitals, including those in Cornwall, Hawkesbury, and Winchester. Having this technology at HGMH will help reduce those trips, support faster diagnoses, and allow more patients to receive essential care close to home.
“At Desjardins, we believe strong communities are built on access to essential services, including quality healthcare. Through our Community Development Fund, we support projects that bring people together around solutions to local needs. We believe money is more than a means. It is a catalyst for collective action and lasting change. We are proud to contribute to the Bring It Home campaign and help advance an initiative that will benefit residents of Glengarry and the surrounding region for years to come,” said Billy Boucher, CEO, Desjardins Ontario Credit Union.
A Community Goal Within Reach
As of September 30, 2026, HGMH Foundation had raised approximately $2.8 million, representing 80% of its $3.5-million fundraising goal. With $700,000 remaining and a March 31, 2027 deadline, the Foundation is entering a crucial period of fundraising.
The HGMH CT suite is expected to open in October 2027, subject to construction and procurement timelines.
“Imagine what it will mean for a patient to walk through the doors of HGMH and receive a CT scan right here in Alexandria, surrounded by the community they call home,” said Mark Adam, Chair of HGMH Foundation. “That is the future we are working toward, and it is within our reach. Desjardins has recognized the importance of making this possible, and we are grateful for their $30,000 investment. With our fundraising deadline approaching on March 31, the decisions people and businesses make today will help determine what we can deliver for patients tomorrow. There is still an important part of this story to write, and we invite our entire region to be part of bringing it home.”
The campaign has received support from individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations throughout the region. Desjardins’ contribution adds to that collective effort and reflects its commitment to strengthening essential local services.
Bringing CT Imaging Closer to Home
For a rural hospital serving Alexandria and surrounding communities, an onsite CT scanner will be an important addition to the care HGMH can provide. It will strengthen diagnostic capabilities, support emergency care, and help patients avoid travelling outside the community for certain essential imaging services.
With the March 31 fundraising deadline approaching, HGMH Foundation is inviting residents, businesses, and community organizations throughout Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry and beyond to help close the remaining $700,000 gap.
The Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to Desjardins Ontario Credit Union for supporting the campaign and investing in the future of rural healthcare.
