“The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom.” -Ronald Reagan
You might be apolitical, you might be a more right type of guy or gal. Or you might be a more towards the left kind of guy or gal. Or you can be a dead center guy or gal. Whatever label you identify with, does not matter.
As a very smart man once stated;
“No matter what you do, no matter how hard you try, you’re screwed because it’s all fixed and rigged. There is a club and you ain’t in it.” ― George Carlin
- You might be conservative if you wonder at each pay stub all the deductions that are taken, and you might have to pay the government even more money on your taxes. You are asking yourself where the hell is all that money going to.
- You might be conservative if you realize that the taxes also pay for education, health and a lot of other social services. You have a sigh of relief that we have a safety net. You just wish that more money goes to Canadians and not to every tom dick and harry around the world.
- You might be conservative if you understand that Canada needs legal immigration with skills and values that will integrate within Canadian values. You wonder why there are so many illegal refugees. If they are down trodden, in dire need of everything, where did they get the money to travel to our border?
- You might be conservative if you wonder why hardened criminals after committing serious crimes are still free. With repeat crimes.
- You might be conservative if you accept all persons with respect and are open to all voices of polite discussion. You do not care about color, race or sexual preference. You look at a person and gauge the character, the ethics and competency of the person.
- You might be conservative, but instead of voicing your opinion, you realize that your boundary stops at the end of your nose. And sometimes it’s better to keep quiet.
- You might be a conservative if you care about the environment and all its issues. But your own research has shown, what the government is saying and proposing is not correct. You see all the other data, reports and come to the realization that the whole story is not being told. Hint: CO2 is not pollution.
- You might be conservative if you care about education, the direction of what is being taught. You might have a sense that the kids are not learning enough life skills. That the kids’ subjects are being deleted due to certain policies. You remember a phase; Those that forget about history are doomed to repeat its mistakes.
- You might be conservative if you care and love your family. You regard your family as your strength.
- You might be conservative if you try to research the facts and not buy into the hype of new and improved.
- You might be conservative if your friends are from all walks of life, backgrounds and countries.
- You might be a conservative if you realize that for every policy or idea proposed. This applies; “ Follow the money.” if they are whoever they are (Remember we are not in the club) are repeating the message or have a new twist on the message. Revert to the first statement; “ Follow the money.”
- You might be conservative if you are called everything from everyone with an agenda by people or groups that know nothing about you. And they call all your friends or associates the same names or labels. Even your Mexican Canadian friend who’s passion for Asian food prompted him to open an Asian restaurant.
- You might be conservative if you start to question everything.
I’m tired of all the in-fighting. In this day and age, people are still waging war, being totally uncivil to one another. We should have flying cars, major diseases should be cured, we should be traveling to the stars, building stations on every livable planet. But we’re too busy fighting.
We need more time with our children, grandkids. We need to laugh more, and not take things too seriously. We don’t have enough time to do all the things we want to do. Because we’re too busy fighting.
And forget about the money, it’s not in our pockets, it’s gone. Never coming back. There are too many stupid decisions that were and will be made in the future. Where the hell is common sense? Where is the common decency? Where is humanity? Where is the compassion? We don’t know because we’re too busy fighting.
Disclaimer: This is not an article about any political party, party ideology or political person.
Sorry John, I find this article disingenuous.
I don’t mind that you borrowed the idea of Jeff Foxworthy’s “You might be a redneck if” comedy routine – but really: you could say “you might be a Liberal or an NDPer if” to most of these and it would be as applicable. So why apply it to Conservatives only?
“You might be a conservative if you care about the environment and all its issues. But your own research has shown, what the government is saying and proposing is not correct. You see all the other data, reports and come to the realization that the whole story is not being told. Hint: CO2 is not pollution.” Well, no. There are people of all political stripes who don’t believe that climate change is man made. The majority however – ARE Conservatives. And Hint: Water is not toxic to humans. But, if you drink too much, it can kill you.
As for “You might be conservative if you are called everything from everyone with an agenda by people or groups that know nothing about you.” Try on “communist, sheeple, woke, libtard,” and whatever form of society destroyer a Conservative leaning hater feels like calling me.
“Disclaimer: This is not an article about any political party, party ideology or political person.” You use Conservative 20 times in the article. Call me crazy but the article seems to refer to people who are politically Conservative.
