Alexandria, ON – MacEwen Petroleum and MacEwen Agricentre are making a major investment in rural healthcare with a $100,000 pledge over two years to Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Made through Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) Foundation’s Business Steps Up program, the commitment will support the $3.5-million campaign to bring an onsite CT scanner to HGMH.
For Jim and Allan MacEwen, the pledge continues a longstanding tradition of supporting causes that strengthen the communities where they live and do business. For HGMH Foundation, it represents one of the most significant commitments to Business Steps Up to date and a strong vote of confidence in the future of rural healthcare.
“This is a momentous commitment for our Foundation and for our hospital,” said Mark Adam, Chair of Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation. “We are incredibly grateful to Jim and Allan MacEwen. They have supported healthcare and so many important community causes over the years, and their continued generosity has made them true pillars of this community. Their leadership is a powerful example of what it means to invest in the place you call home.”
HGMH Foundation is raising $3.5 million to bring CT technology directly to the hospital. Currently, patients who require a CT scan must travel or be transferred to another hospital, with the nearest CT services approximately 40 kilometres or more from Alexandria.
In a rural community, that distance can have a significant impact. For someone who is ill, injured or experiencing a medical emergency, accessing a CT scan elsewhere may mean an ambulance transfer, additional travel, more time away from family and the added stress of receiving care outside the community.
An onsite CT scanner will give HGMH physicians access to important diagnostic imaging directly at the hospital and expand the range of care that can be provided locally.
MacEwen’s pledge reflects the purpose behind Business Steps Up, an initiative created by HGMH Foundation to give businesses and organizations an opportunity to play a direct role in strengthening rural healthcare. Through one-time gifts or multi-year commitments, participating businesses help invest in healthcare that serves their employees, customers, families and communities.
The MacEwen pledge will be completed over two years, providing significant momentum as the Foundation works toward its $3.5-million campaign goal.
“There are moments in a campaign when a commitment changes the sense of what is possible,” Adam said. “This is one of those moments. A $100,000 pledge moves us meaningfully closer to bringing CT care to HGMH, and we hope Jim and Allan’s example encourages other businesses to look at the role they can play. When our business community steps forward together, the impact on local healthcare can be extraordinary.”
Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation continues to advance the CT scanner campaign with the support of individuals, families, businesses and community organizations from across the region. Every commitment brings HGMH closer to providing CT imaging locally and strengthening the hospital’s capacity to care for patients in our rural community.
