OUT and ABOUT with Seeker Chick Mai-Liis – a Weekend of Artsy Stuff!

Hi there and what a wonderful weekend we just had. Unfortunately due to Covid I have not been OUT and ABOUT as I normally would be. I am keeping cautious due to the fact that we are primary care givers to my mother and father who are in their late 80s, so I pick and choose where I go while donning my Seeker Mask, Social Distancing and constantly washing my hands because after all we have to do what is best for our safety and that of our families.

Have you heard of “The ART of Recycling Cornwall”. This venture is a collaboration between Cailuan Gallery, Yafa Arts & Crafts, 125 Pitt Street Studios, Farm Boy, Sexual Assault Support Services for Women of SDG&A and L’Association Focus Art Association.

The purpose of “The ART of recycling Cornwall” is to encourage people to to make art from whatever items you are planning to throw in the Recycling bin – repurpose these into art supplies!

ART of all mediums whether it be visual, performance, literary brings people together and makes them happy, especially during this strange time that we are going through. Art feeds the soul and yes right now there are many opportunities to get together via Zoom and other such platforms but this past Saturday the doors of 125 Pitt Street Studios were open from noon to 3pm so that you could go and pick up a special bag full of materials that you can create art with. L’Association Focus Art Association along with many members of the community donated items that were put together by wonderful volunteers, into brown recycled paper bags donated by Farm Boy. These bags can be incorporated into your art project if you wish.

Once your project is made, snap a pic and send it to The ART of Recycling Cornwall Facebook Page or post it to your personal page with the hashtag #recyclingartcornwall.

So I picked up 2 bags, one for myself and one for Seeker Chick Julia. We will be checking out the contents of our bags on today’s Monday Morning Motivation Show at 10am on the Seeker Facebook Page. If you can’t watch us live please visit at any time and check out the show.

While at the Studios I found 2 artists, Mandy Prevost and Brett Desrosiers working in this beautiful creative space.

If you didn’t get to pick up your FREE bag of gently used art materials this weekend, you can still do so this Tuesday, March 2nd between 1:30 and 3pm

We will also have a special guest on our Show who I also visited this weekend.

There is a wonderful store that opened on the second floor in Cornwall Square before Christmas – called “Modern Primitive” and really it is so hard to describe the store as everything in it is so unique.

Their Facebook page description reads: “Modern Primitive is a culturally diverse and spiritually inspired gift shop! Here you will find clothing from across the globe, locally made treasures, vinyl from back in time, inspiration from a Tarot reader, and a laugh with our staff.” A great description but to truly appreciate it you have to walk through the doors. The only problem is that when you do walk in there you need to make sure that you have lots of time to explore.

Everywhere you look you will discover so many gems and one gem that I did discover today was owner, Derek Morley. Talk about a unique character – a poet, a Polar Bear Swimmer, Acrobat (as you can see by the photo) and comedian plus an individual who is supporting so many artists and artisans throughout his store.

Derek will be joining us on the Monday Morning Motivation Show today, Monday March 1st so again if you miss the show then, tune in at a later date as he will be showcasing the store and showing off some of the unique items that he has to offer.

Back in England, when I was a teenager there was a store in Leicester called “The Very Bazaar” (which I believe is still there) and it is full of items like you will find here, especially clothing, bags, incense, wooden statues etc. and guess where I spent a lot of my time shopping. Like I said – if you venture into this store, make sure you have a lot of time to shop as well!

This weekend was so beautiful so I took advantage and did quite a bit of walking, which as we all know is great for our mental health so as much as you can get out into the fresh air and enjoy.
