Cornwall.ca — Members of the U12 Girls Blazers were recently recognized for their participation in this year’s Spring Clean-Up Challenge.
As part of the community-wide clean up effort, the group decided to pick up litter around the Benson Centre and nearby Angelo Lebano Lane. Perry Ruffo, the team coordinator, saw it as a good opportunity to build some team spirit while giving back to the community at the same time.
The team was chosen at random as the recipient of this year’s grand prize from the City of Cornwall, which included a recognition plaque and free swim passes to the Aquatic Centre.
In all, 15 groups and individuals registered to participate in this year’s Spring Clean-Up Challenge, which was held from April 20th to 27th. A number of local schools also participated in the event, with La Citadelle Secondary School taking home top honours in that area.
All told, over 1.5 tonnes of waste collected during the Spring Clean-Up Challenge. “The Spring Clean-Up Challenge presents a great opportunity to show our community pride and make our city look even better,” said Mayor Bob Kilger.
