The Power of Simplicity: Canadian Water Savings’ Smart Valve™ Lowers Water Costs 15 to 35 Percent

“To be simple is to be great,” Emerson wrote. That idea has proven to be true in so many areas, from fashion and design to technology and finance. For property managers across North America, simplicity is proving its power by managing water costs, one element of operating expenses that has increased substantially in recent years.

The simple solution to reducing water utility bills by 15 to 35 percent is Smart Valve™, a small device that uses basic principles of physics to add new efficiency to water systems.

Distributor Canadian Water Systems has introduced this solution to an estimated 20,000 owners and property managers in the U.S. and Canada. These customers manage hotels, multi-residential buildings, office complexes, commercial and retail properties, restaurants, golf courses, breweries, and more.

For them, time is money, but so is water — the water that leaks from old or inefficient pipes. With these older systems, small leaks become large, systemic leaks, adding additional costs to monthly water utility bills that rise each year, often dramatically.

In many regions, especially those affected by changing weather patterns, water is becoming a scarce natural resource. But even in places where natural freshwater supplies are abundant, the cost of water has become a major expense for property owners. In dollar terms, the value of water has never been higher. And with growing strains on supplies, resource conservation concerns and government mandates, the price of water will continue to rise.

Smart Valve™ works by applying simple and intuitive technology. Whenever water flows through a typical faucet, air is mixed with the water. This happens naturally as a result of the turbulence created when water accelerates through pipes. This air adds volume to what is measured by water meters, driving up costs. Air is free, but not when it’s in your water pipes.

The Smart Valve™ removes air from the water system. It does this by creating back pressure that reduces turbulence, maintaining an even flow through the pipes. Without the air bubbles in the water, there’s less total volume for a water meter to measure.

Canadian Water Savings points to many case studies in which this benefit was put to the test, in residential and commercial applications. One example is an airport hotel that saved 34.5 percent on its water bill in the first two months after installation of the Smart Valve™. Another is a Toronto condominium complex that slashed nearly $2,000 a month from its water bill, a savings of 28 per cent over its previous baseline costs. Efficiency typically improves during the first few months, building momentum for greater savings.

Smart Valve™ conserves water at the source, in real-time. It achieves this without the need for expensive installation, re-piping or renovation. Smart Valve™ fits in the palm of the hand and is easy to install. The valve can be put in place quickly — no need for a plumber, and no interruption of a building’s water flow.

Smart Valve™ also comes with a comprehensive guarantee: If water cost savings don’t meet or exceed 15 percent, the company will remove the valve free of charge.

Property managers know that utility bills will keep rising over time, especially the monthly water bill. Smart Valve™ is the key to an effective cost-management plan, an essential resource for any property manager seeking to meet the challenges of these rising costs. Smart Valve™ stops leaks and enhances profitability. Every day it proves itself in real-world situations, in buildings and communities across North America.
