Cornwall Ontario – The Agapè Centre is encouraging Cornwall and area residents to bundle up and raise cold, hard cash for The Coldest Night of the Year walk. A family-friendly winter fundraising event for Cornwall’s homeless, hungry and hurting, the Coldest Night of the Year walk takes place on Saturday evening, February 25, 2017.
Thousands of participants will be taking part in the Coldest Night of the Year walk in an anticipated 100+ cities across Canada. By walking together in the chill of the night, participants will better understand the experience of being on the streets during a cold Canadian winter, while raising funds to aid the work of the Agapè Centre in providing much-needed support to members of our community.
The Cornwall walk has a new beginning and end point this year just to add some variety. We will begin and end at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 205 Amelia Street where walkers will register, turn in the results of their fundraising efforts, and return at the end of the evening for a warm celebration meal. A rest stop will be located at the Agapè Centre, 40 Fifth Street West which is about the half-way point in the 5km walk. Donning iconic yellow and blue tuques, participants will walk a 2km, 5km or 10km route, and will warm up with toasty drinks at a rest stop along the way.
This is the Agapè Centre ‘s 4th year taking part in the Coldest Night of the Year, and they’re aiming to raise $25,000 for their work with the hungry in Cornwall. An expected 200 walkers and 25 teams, including staff and friends of the Agapè Centre are expected to brave the cold winter’s night.
The Agapè Centre has been serving Cornwall and area since 1971 and the funds raised in the Coldest Night of the Year will benefit its clients in a time of the year known historically for being a significant time of need.
