Then and Now: Heritage Fair 2018

Interest in local history is quite high among locals and tourists as well. I see it daily on social media, at the Cornwall Community Museum and in so many ways.

Since 1974, the third Monday every February has been identified as Heritage Day in Canada. In 1985, the Ontario government designated the third week in February as Ontario Heritage Week, with the federal Heritage Day kicking off the week.

Are you aware that in a few weeks time, more than a dozen area groups and organizations will be exhibiting at a free public event at the Cornwall Square? On Saturday, February 24 in Centre Court (1st floor) from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. these interesting exhibits staffed by experienced and passionate volunteers are not to be missed. Perhaps vintage trains drive you, or family history is right up your tree! Maybe you like finding yourself at the Lost Villages or enjoy picturing yourself in Cornwall’s historic neighbourhoods. There will be plenty to see and talk about as well as some bargains to be had on local history books, and more.

I’ll be there; please stop by and say hello.
