Mel Dubé to visit Cornwall with release of new Mixtape
Cornwall Ontario – Toronto indie reggae artist, Mel Dubé, will be playing a show in Cornwall on August 27th at La Maison Tavern.
She is releasing a 12-track debut mixtape, titled Road Trip, which is now available for streaming and download on her website.
“My main motivation for creating this mixtape is to connect to new fans as I gear up for shows at the Montreal International Reggae Festival (August 26th) and Cornwall’s Red Hot Revolution (on August 27th),” says Mel Dubé.
Road Trip includes Dubé’s debut single “Extra Side”, a song inspired from her cravings for sweet potatoes fries and jerk chicken. As a foodie, writing a song about being addicted to her lover like a side dish was very natural for Mel Dubé.
“It is sometimes hard for me to communicate how I truly feel about a situation to people that I’m close with. My music is way to escape from my reality of stress, dating issues and even hunger problems,” explains Mel Dubé.
Road Trip is mixed by DJ Red X, who is recognized for his prominent mixtapes for a variety of Canadian reggae artists including Juno award winner Blessed. He also holds a resident DJ spot for Stages Canada, an urban industry networking event hosted by Carrie Mullings of VIBE 105.5FM (Toronto).
On “Hush Baby”, Mel Dubé sings about a relationship she experienced with a deportee. The track features well known UK reggae artist, Ras Demo, from Inna Mi Yard Productions, who also produced and co-wrote “Extra Side” and “Going The Extra Mile”. The latter was written for the Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Awards honouring Ontario Ministry of Labour employees.
Special guest and hip-hop artist Ishyaboy Truss will be performing, as well as music by Sligo Nebula.
Tickets are $10, doors open at 9pm, and the show is 19+. La Maison Tavern is located at 900 Montreal Road in the east-end of Cornwall.
