(Brockville) – The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario announced today thatits members will participate in a one-day “political protest” this Friday, January 11th. We have been advised by an ETFO representative that the protest will be in the form of a walkout. This means that some of our teachers may not be at work on Friday.
This does not affect educational assistants, early childhood educators, or other school support staff.
The Upper Canada District School Board plans to keep schools open. It is our hope that our teachers will be at school on Friday. However, should some or all of our teachers not report for work, it will not be business as usual.
We are committed to keeping our schools open and our students safely supervised. To help us plan for the day, we again ask that parents inform their schools if they intend to send their child to school on Friday. They may do so by calling the school directly, or through email or on the school’s Facebook site.
We regret the inconvenience and apologize for the uncertainty of the situation.
“I, like many other parents, will keep my sons at home. However, I’m really pleased that we are able to provide an opportunity to those parents who do not have a child care alternative on Friday,” stated Board Chair Greg Pietersma.
Updates will also be posted by the board at the www.studentsfirstalways.ca blog site. Please continue to monitor the Board Web site (www.ucdsb.on.ca) or Facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/UCDSB).
