Cornwall Ontario — Friday, May 24, 2013 – Martin Bélanger – Cornwall Motor Speedway will have a second shot for opening night this Sunday as the Gaetan`s Chip Stand Canadian Nationals Series will be the highlight of the evening with a 100-lap Modified feature race along with a full program sponsored by The Squire Shop.
When the cancellation announcement was made last Sunday, already over 100 cars had registered for opening night.
Several big names from Quebec will make the haul to Cornwall to try and win the event paying a cool $4,000 to the winner. Drivers such as David Hébert, Mario Clair, Steve Bernard, Yan Bussière, Michel Chicoine, Clément and Alan Therrien along with track regulars Kayle Robidoux, Bruno Lepage, Gabriel Richer and Daniel Nadeau will compete against the tough local regular that includes Carey Terrance, Laurent Ladouceur, Joel Doiron, Chris Raabe, Kyle Dingwall and company. One of the good fields of Modifieds of 2013 is expected for this coveted event.
The Tracy Wheeler Storm Realty Sportsman category will have a great field of cars as over 25 drivers were already on hand last week as several newcomers joined the ranks.
With Joey Ladouceur leaving the Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock division to join the Sportsman ranks, this will open the championship hunt for several drivers. The return of Dave Bissonnette will add an extra challenge for everyone.
The Evans Bus Lines Semi-Pro group will continue to offer great evening of racing throughout the next season as a competitive field will be present each night.
A healthy field of Mini-Stock will be present for 2013, as several new drivers will join the ranks of the support division. We had a glimpse at registration last Sunday with the amount of new names registered.
With the cancellation and postponement of the Canadian Nationals Series to this Sunday, the photo and autograph night will be held on Sunday, June 9th.
For Sunday`s event, the pit gates will open at 3:30pm with general admission unlocking at 4:30pm. Time trials for Modifieds will start at 6:30pm with the first heat scheduled to start at 7:00pm. It will cost $25 for adults in general admission, 15$ for seniors and Children 18 years and under, only 2$ to access the site. For pit admission, the price will be $35.
